About Dr. Sparks
My name is Dr. David M. Sparks and I am the originator and creator of Professor Sparkplug LLC. I built this project to showcase the knowledge, skills, and talents I have derived from 34 years of teaching, including 23 years as a middle and high school teacher and 11 years as a college professor. In 2026, I will be retiring from the state of Texas and moving to Louisiana to become an Associate Professor of Education at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. I am excited for the transition and I can't wait to continue my research and college instruction at a new university.
HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF PROFESSOR SPARKPLUG:
In 1995 while working at a middle school in Texarkana, we had a Science Fair scheduled and all the teachers were lamenting at the past low attendance and lack of excitement from the students. I suggested that we add some science experiments and other booths to increase the attendance. I chose the persona of Professor I. M. Sparkplug and conducted experiments in Chemistry and Physics and included students in the show. Since then I have brought back the character at least 10 times for shows at family events, parent nights, and university meetings. I also enjoy writing "Professor Sparkplug was here" when possible anywhere I can find a whiteboard or chalkboard. When choosing the name for my LLC, I wanted something to reflect my personality and also my skills as a professor and educator. Professor Sparkplug LLC was established in 2024 to that end.
